This summer I thought I would begin to turn my savage into my own little custom jewel. So I started with the basics, a new Jardine exhaust pipe,( which gave me back my male ego, thank you Jardine love the sound.) and thought I would give the rear of the bike a meatier look, stepping up to a little bigger tire. Looks a lot better, but it is not a great fit at all. Although when you install the tire it will clear the frame and the fender with a little room to spare, the tires side wall will rub against the drive belt, causing substantial wear to both the belt and the tire. I'm sure that this can be corrected by using a different brand of tire or perhaps some micro adjustments, however I could find no way of correcting the problem myself. I have worn the sidewall down enough now that the rubbing is gone, but feel it was a hard lesson to learn, looks great, but I will go back to the stock tire size when its time to replace the rear tire next year. Can't wait for winter so I can start going deeper into the custom world. I have found a lot of great tips here, and have also found that the longer I own my Savage the more I love my Savage. I ecspecially like the fact that its almost paid for, what a great ride for the money.
